Transition: Bounce Forward
Organised by Transition Network

Transition Network has developed a programme of support, “Transition: Bounce Forward”, for transition towns that will be delivered over the coming months.
As the first step, they have been running a series of online 'What Is?' events this week (7th - 10th of September). These have been exploring how Transition groups can respond to the combination of COVID-19, socio - economic issues and the ongoing climate crisis:
Join representatives from Crystal Palace Transition Town, Deal with It and Transition Town Wellington to explore how their projects are adapting to recent events, to pandemics, and to the upsurge of concern around climate change.

This will be followed by further sessions in October and November, during which they will be looking at ‘What If’ and ‘What Next’.

Free Virtual Expert- led Mini-Seminars
40 – 60 minutes
Via Zoom
Organised by Transition Buxton
To join in, please register for each session in advance via awareness@transitionbuxton.co.uk. You will then receive an ‘invitation’ to join via a Zoom link.
Madeline Hall & Steve Philips will talk about what the Serpentine Community Garden (SCG) is and where it’s going. After 5 years’ activity as Serpentine Community Farm CIC and its earlier genesis as the Food Group within Transition Buxton, SCG has big ambitions to continue to grow an increasingly wide range of plants, and improve our knowledge and understanding of the natural environment, as well as providing social and therapeutic support in our community and more.
Our life is in a consumer culture with all the threats that poses to our survival; not an easy proposition for us humans. We’ll get some advice from an austere Victorian art critic, a couple of contemporary American philosophers and the prime UK advocate of eudemonics. This seminar asks the question - what happens when we take a ‘moral turn’ and begin to talk about what is not mentioned in polite American circles: CONSUMPTION?

We are running regular monthly Zoom meetings to give community groups a chance to informally meet and share ideas. Our next Zoom meeting will be on Tuesday 18th August* from 7pm till 8pm.
The Government finance statement in July 2020 included an announcement about the new Green Homes Grant scheme.
In this Zoom, we will detail what we know so far about the scheme and what we would like to know. It will also be chance to discuss what we think about it - can we envisage any problems that may arise? Is the scheme a strong enough government response to the climate emergency?
As usual, you will be able to share what you have been up to, hear about what other community groups are doing, and ask for any support you would like from us.
*N.B:- Please note the change of date to avoid clashing with a Plastic Free Chesterfield event.

Do you want to have difficult conversations about the climate with friends and family, but don’t know where to begin?
Led by Rebecca Nestor (climate psychologist and LCON trustee), this workshop aims to help build your confidence in talking with friends and family about the climate crisis. It is based on materials created by Rosemary Randall, long-standing expert on climate psychology, and by Climate Outreach.
By the end of the workshop, you will have planned and maybe even scripted a climate conversation that is relevant to your own situation.
You need to attend both parts of the workshop.
Thursday 23rd July, 7.30 - 9.00pm

To fight the climate crisis, most of the fossil fuel reserves need to stay in the ground.
In this webinar, Ben Caldecott, Director of the Oxford Sustainable Finance Programme and leading expert in Sustainable Finance, together with student campaigner Anna Olerinyova, looks at fossil fuel divestment. Ben and Anna will discuss the fossil fuel industry’s central role in the climate crisis, what can be done to stop funding it, and how we can all play our part.
