Free Advice Available on Greener Travel in Newark

Newark residents are being offered free travel advice on their doorstep -  to encourage more people to use greener transport to help improve air quality, tackle congestion, promote a healthier lifestyle and improve access to job opportunities. The two-year County Council-led scheme, known as Travel Choice, comes on the back of £845,000 funding from the Department for Transport.

Personalised travel plans will be offered to approximately 9,000 households in the Newark area with travel advisors out and about in the town during th first half of June, asking householders about their travel patterns. Off the back of these conversations, householders will be then be sent a free, personalised travel pack full of information, including maps showing local walks and other green travel tips.

Travel advisors will also be running sessions at local secondary schools and job centres to help advise job seekers and school leavers on their transport options for accessing jobs, apprenticeships or further education. The next sessions for aimed at school leavers is being held on Wednesday 27th June at Newark College.

Local employers will also have the opportunity to get involved as the Travel Choice team is offering a variety of tailored free advice, discounts and benefits to businesses to encourage employees to travel more sustainably for business travel journeys and the commute to work.
