Help End Cold Homes

Five million UK households live in fuel poverty - they cannot afford to keep their homes warm. Cold homes have been linked to the death of 7,000 older people each year, and higher rates of asthma and mental illness in children and teenagers.
Now, 120 organisations have come together to ask the government to use the money it gets from carbon taxes to invest in energy efficiency for homes. The scheme could improve an incredible 600,000 homes a year. It would make them cheaper to heat and cut their carbon footprint. Eventually that would mean taking 9 out of 10 households out of the misery of fuel poverty.

Organisations involved include Friends of the Earth, Barnados, Age UK and Mencap.

Community RePaint Nottinghamshire

Community RePaint Nottinghamshire scheme can now be found at the following Recycling Centres: Beeston, Calverton, Newark and Warsop. Community groups, voluntary organisations, housing associations, charities and schools from Nottinghamshire, Nottingham City and neighbouring counties are all invited to register to get supplies of free paint. The paint has come from public donations and has all been checked to make sure that it is in a good reusable condition. The reusable paint is stored in a designated shelved paint cabin at the above sites and is organised by type and colour. Although, we can’t guarantee what colours and types will be available at any one time, there’s usually plenty of choice, you can take as much as you need and it’s all provided free of charge. More than 12,000 litres of reusable paint have already been given out since the scheme began and over 100 community groups have benefitted from receiving free paint to refurbish their spaces.

To register your group, please visit www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/communityrepaint and download an application form or call Nottinghamshire County Council on 0300 500 8080.
