We are running regular monthly Zoom meetings to give community groups a chance to informally meet and share ideas. Our next Zoom meeting will be on Tuesday 18th August* from 7pm till 8pm.
The Government finance statement in July 2020 included an announcement about the new Green Homes Grant scheme.
In this Zoom, we will detail what we know so far about the scheme and what we would like to know. It will also be chance to discuss what we think about it - can we envisage any problems that may arise? Is the scheme a strong enough government response to the climate emergency?
As usual, you will be able to share what you have been up to, hear about what other community groups are doing, and ask for any support you would like from us.
*N.B:- Please note the change of date to avoid clashing with a Plastic Free Chesterfield event.

Here, you will virtually explore the thermally efficient, airtight, timber frame home that Jim built when he couldn't find an older property to retrofit. The house is fitted with measures and features such as:
You can read Jim’s case study for full details of the measures installed.

Do you want to have difficult conversations about the climate with friends and family, but don’t know where to begin?
Led by Rebecca Nestor (climate psychologist and LCON trustee), this workshop aims to help build your confidence in talking with friends and family about the climate crisis. It is based on materials created by Rosemary Randall, long-standing expert on climate psychology, and by Climate Outreach.
By the end of the workshop, you will have planned and maybe even scripted a climate conversation that is relevant to your own situation.
You need to attend both parts of the workshop.

To fight the climate crisis, most of the fossil fuel reserves need to stay in the ground.
In this webinar, Ben Caldecott, Director of the Oxford Sustainable Finance Programme and leading expert in Sustainable Finance, together with student campaigner Anna Olerinyova, looks at fossil fuel divestment. Ben and Anna will discuss the fossil fuel industry’s central role in the climate crisis, what can be done to stop funding it, and how we can all play our part.

Our next CCAN Zoom meeting will be held on Wednesday 22nd July from 7pm till 8pm. We are pleased to announce that Gillian Wright from Energy Local will be joining us to talk about their neighbourhood renewable energy clubs.
Energy Local is transforming the electricity market for communities and small scale renewable generators. Their mission is to help communities get more value from small-scale renewable generation by using the renewable electricity locally.
Energy Local allows a local group of customers and generators to form a coop - an Energy Local Club (ELC). Consumers have smart meters to show when and how much power they are using. Members (consumers and generators) agree a better price for local generators than they would get paid normally and reduce their own consumer bills. It reflects local renewables’ true value and keeps more money local.
Energy Local are currently replicating this model across the country and are looking for communities to share the opportunity. To find out more, please join this CCAN Community Zoom and/or visit their website.

There’s nothing to worry about and no need to take action – surely? Join Rachel Purchase, from the Buxton Civic Association Biodiversity Group, to find out where we stand at the moment, why we should care and what you might want to do around biodiversity,

An every day story charting a personal voyage of discovery from meat-eater to whole-food, plant-based and happy.
Due to our increased meat consumption, food waste, environmentally damaging farming methods, there has been a significant reduction in biodiversity and a increase in atmospheric greenhouse gasses.
Terry has looked at three reports, from the Committee on Climate Change, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and the Lancet Commission. To reduce the environmental impact of agriculture, they agree that less meat from ruminants should be eaten - but differ on how much less. Referring to these reports and other relevant peer reviewed papers, Terry will explain the judgement he has made between them and conclusions he has drawn.
