Our Carbon Footprint Course

This free course, organised by Transition Belper and Belper Town Council, is a great opportunity to find out more about the climate change crisis and what we can do to mitigate its impacts. The course will cover the fundamentals such as the science behind climate change and its impacts locally and nationally. It will go on to explain what we can do as individuals and in our communities to tackle the climate emergency effectively. It is presented by Caroline Harmon of Marches Energy Agency who is a Carbon Literacy Course provider.

2040 - Film Screening and Climate Groups Trip

Pomegranate Theatre in Chesterfield will be screening the visionary film, 2040, at the end of January and start of February. The film, directed by award-winning director Damon Gameau (That Sugar Film), explores what the world could look like in 2040 if we embraced the best solutions already available to improve our planet now.

Carbon Literacy will equip you and your organisation to bring about the rapid reduction in carbon emissions required in the next few years by the climate emergency. This particular course is suitable for all sectors - Community, Voluntary, Businesses, LAs, Academia - and, in addition to covering everything you need to become Carbon Literate, will also look at how to begin creating your own course. It's also a chance to meet others who are involved in Carbon Literacy courses.

Carbon Literacy is defined as "An awareness of the carbon dioxide costs and impacts of everyday activities, and the ability and motivation to reduce emissions, on an individual, community and organisational basis.”

The 12th annual Potato Day is at the end of this month where over 40 varieties of seed potatoes will be available to buy at low costs. Other vegetables seeds such as beans, peas, onions, shallots and garlic will be available too. It is entirely run by volunteers and profits will be split between Transition Chesterfield and Inspire Community Garden.

Retrofit Bootcamp for Installers

The Energy Innovation Collaboration team at University of Nottingham (in partnership with the Retrofit Academy) is running a free two-day bootcamp that will provide a comprehensive overview of the PAS2035 standard for installers. PAS2035 is the necessary standard that is mandatory for all future domestic retrofit projects and projects will be only be eligible for public funding if the standard is followed.

Places for the EU funded training are limited to one per organisation from a SME, social enterprise or sole trader based in the Derbyshire or Nottinghamshire region.
