Chancellor Set To Announce £3bn Green Investment Package

On Wednesday (8th July), Rishi Sunak is set to announce a £3bn green investment package to cut carbon emissions. The plan aims to tackle UK’s poorly insulated homes, decarbonise public buildings, and create tens of thousands of new ‘green’ jobs.

This will include a £2bn Green Homes Grant scheme through which homeowners will be able to apply for vouchers of up to £5,000 for energy-saving home improvements. The government are commiting to pay at least two-thirds of the cost.

However, campaigners say Rishi Sunak’s plans does not go far enough when compared to Germany (£36bn) and France (£13.5bn).
