Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Homes Sought For Eco Home Open Event

Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire residents who have insulated their home, put solar panels on the roof or even built their own eco home are being invited to open their doors to inspire others this spring as part of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Eco Homes Open Week 2014.

Marches Energy Agency is looking for homes who have made a variety of energy and environmental improvements and would like to open their homes for a few hours, or a whole day, between 10th and 18th May.

The event is an opportunity to inspire others to make their homes warmer, cheaper to heat and better for the environment by showing them what you’ve done – be it simple draught proofing, a highly efficient boiler, rainwater harvesting, or generating your own renewable energy. There’s no need to be an expert or to have opened you home before as Marches is offering support to those taking part.

Caroline Harmon of Marches Energy Agency, one of the organisations behind the event, said:

‘This is the second time we’ve run this exciting event. Last year, more than 100 people visited 12 home and buildings around Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. We’re lucky to have lots of energy efficient, eco homes in the area and this year we’d love to involve even more of them in this event. We’re offering training and help with publicity to all homes taking part.’

If you would like to take part by opening for a few hours, a day or a weekend, contact Caroline Harmon on 07748 508704 or caroline.harmon@mea.org.uk.

Householders taking part are also invited to a training event in Chesterfield on 29th March. There will be a chance to meet others who are opening their homes, and to hear from experts such as Tina Holt of West Bridgford Eco Houses and Kate Watson of Bristol Green Doors. Support is also available in the form of help with publicity and practical advice from the event organisers on opening your home.

Details of houses which are open, and when, will be listed on the event’s websites: www.everybodys-talking.org/ecohomes and http://everybodys-talking.greenopenhomes.net
