Local News in Brief (June 2021):
On Thursday 27th May, Nottinghamshire County Council formally declared a Climate Emergency. A motion, unanimously voted for by councillors, set out a commitment to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030.
The new Transport and Environment Committee, chaired by Councillor Neil Clarke, will be responsible for delivery.
Transition Buxton celebrates over ten years of its Community Orchard, where free fruit is available for anyone in the community.
In 2010, members of Transition Buxton searched for a single site in the town to start a Community Orchard. When this search proved fruitless (no pun intended!), a series of small locations around the town were used to create the 'Dispersed Community Orchard'.
Thanks to a generous donation from the Buxton Civic Association, five elegant information signs will be erected at five established sites. There will be a public unveiling of one of these signs at Cote Heath Orchard on Friday 25th June at 2pm. Local Councillors, Cote Heath residents, and Transition Buxton members have been invited.
