Together for Our Planet : The National Lottery Community Fund
Tue, 2 November 2021Voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) organisations have until 18th November to apply for their share of a £2.5 million climate engagement fund.
Grants of £1,000 to £10,000 are available for activities relating to the climate in one of the following areas:
- Food.
- Transport.
- Energy.
- Waste and consumption.
- The natural environment.
Approximately 400 to 500 awards will be made through this National Lottery Community Fund, with each project required to meet at least two of the following criteria:
- Support the development of a longer-term climate action within communities after the COP26 event.
- Encourage communities to plan for the climate emergency.
- Celebrate the importance of community-led climate action and encourage more people to get involved.
- Build resilience in communities hardest hit by climate change.
- Provide jobs, skills or training opportunities for communities which support climate action.
It is expected that most of the funding awarded will be to support activities taking place after the COP26 conference, which runs from 1 November to 12 November 2021.
The funder is particularly interested in applications from groups who are starting to think about taking action on climate change in their communities.

ps and charities are being encouraged to apply for funding as part of the latest drive to encourage healthy and thriving communities as the county continues its recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic.
With the Local Improvement Scheme coming to an end, the LCF application process aims to be even more accessible for organisations and groups seeking financial support to deliver projects.
Eligible organisations can apply at any time for capital grants of up to £20,000 to spend on making improvements to facilities that help improve health and wellbeing, as well as projects with an environmental focus. These include:
- Improvements to sporting facilities;
- Play areas and/or equipment;
- Green/horticultural improvements to open spaces;
- Heritage improvements, signposts and information boards to improve the visitor experience.
- Revenue schemes to help projects with their running costs are also available (no maximum amount). Applications from a range of projects are welcomed, including:
- Projects that tackle digital exclusion, good neighbourhood schemes, dementia-friendly communities, food/lunch clubs etc;
- Encouraging local networks where people help themselves and each other to be resilient, neighbourly and safe;
- Increasing volunteering opportunities;
- Addressing climate and environmental change;
- Improving access to existing community-based services (e.g. advice and signposting), for the most vulnerable residents.
Community organisations and groups can apply at any time for a small revenue grant up to £5,000, while organisations applying for a large revenue grant (more than £5,000) must be received by 31st December 2021 and must have a good track record of delivery.

IPCC’s Sixth Assessment Report
Mon, 11 October 2021On 9th August, the Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change (IPCC) published its Sixth Assessment Report. It contains the most up-to-date and thorough account of the current state of climate change and the science behind it. Some key points:
- The science cannot be any clearer that human emissions are the cause of the global temperature rise and climate change.
“It is unequivocal that human influence has warmed the atmosphere, ocean, and land.”
- Global surface temperature was 1.09C higher in the decade between 2011-2020 than between 1850-1900.
"Global surface temperature will continue to increase until at least the mid-century under all emissions scenarios considered."
- Due to past GHG emissions, all IPCC scenarios suggest we are headed for a warmer planet with more frequent extreme weather events.
“Many changes due to past and future greenhouse gas emissions are irreversible for centuries to millennia, especially changes in the ocean, ice sheets and global sea level.”
- We can still limit warming to below 1.5 degrees and further climate change. But deep and rapid reductions in GHG emissions are needed NOW by all nations.
“Global warming of 1.5°C and 2°C will be exceeded during the 21st century unless deep reductions in carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gas emissions occur in the coming decades.”

Erewash Borough Council Approves Home Energy Efficiency Funding
Mon, 11 October 2021A number of households in the Erewash could be invited to apply for a grant from Erewash Borough Council to make their home more energy efficient.
A funding award of £757,550 from the Midlands Energy Hub was approved on September 8th - a part of the Government’s Local Authority Delivery Phase 2 Programme.
The grants will be open to select households in Erewash and will initially focus on four areas: Larklands and Little Hallam in Ilkeston, Derby Road East in Long Eaton and Long Eaton Central. The scheme will be delivered in partnership with Marches Energy Agency and E.ON, and will see people able to apply for external wall insulation or fully funded solar panels.
