7.00pm - 8.00pm

URC Church, Hardwick Square, Buxton

This excellent session of very topical interest is for anyone who in the course of their work or activities may come into contact with ‘vulnerable consumers’ – for example people on low incomes, older people, those with health difficulties and disabilities and families with young children.
Do you work or volunteer with people on low incomes?
Would you like to help them save money on energy bills?
This FREE session will show participants
  • How they can help or signpost people to check if they could get a better deal by switching tariff or energy provider.
  • What the switching process involves and myth-busting about switching.
  • Highlight the energy-related benefits that vulnerable consumers may be entitled to and who to contact to apply for these.
Fuel poverty in the High Peak is above the national average, and even in some of the more affluent areas of the borough it can affect at least 1 in 5 households. On average across the country, consumers who have never switched energy provider before have saved £130 - £150 but anecdotally in the High Peak we are finding that people are saving up to £700 a year by switching. People living in rented accommodation, using prepayment meters and in fuel-debt can often benefit from switching too.
This training is provided by High Peak CVS with funding from DECC (the Department for Energy & Climate Change). It is part of a project to help reduce fuel poverty by helping people take action to switch energy tariff or provider to get a better deal, and check to see that they are getting any energy-related benefits that they are entitled to.
