Comments Still Being Accepted on Derbyshire Fracking Application

Comments on a planning application for an exploratory well for shale gas at Bramleymoor Lane, near Marsh Lane in Derbyshire are still being accepted despite the formal consultation period having ended. The application, the first of its kind in Derbyshire, was submitted by INEOS. The official deadline for objections was 10th August 2017 but comments are still being taken via the council’s website.

Anyone can object to a planning application, though more weight is given to people directly affected, such as local residents. Derbyshire County Council's Planning Committee will make the decision to approve or reject the application, although the Government can ultimately overrule a decision to reject fracking, as they have done in Lancashire.

Energy Advice Available in Belper

Transition Belper are offering home visits this autumn and winter to people who need energy advice. If you live in the Belper area then the groups’ trained advisors can help you with energy tariffs, energy use and saving energy. In addition, in the winter months the group’s thermal camera can show you how well your home is insulated against losing heat.

The group is also happy to hear from any organisations, agencies or individuals that have energy reduction projects under way or planned. Pedal Peak for Business Grants

Do you run a small business in Derbyshire that could benefit from making it easier to cycle in the area?

The Peak District National Park Authority is operating a grants scheme as part of the Pedal Peak for Business initiative to support Derbyshire businesses to offer good quality experiences for all types of cyclists and stimulate the cycling economy.

The fund will provide 50% towards the expenditure for small-scale projects which will help create cycle friendly places that meet the needs of residents, day visitors and touring cyclists. Cycle friendly places will encourage residents and visitors to explore the area on two wheels, whilst contributing more to the local economy, and complement other aspects of a place’s tourism.

Examples of the kinds of things that could be funded include secure cycle parking at a cafe or holiday accommodation, purchase of tools for loan, street bike pumps built into public bike parking sites or links in network of bike paths. Eligible business are those with less than 250 employees who are based in specific areas of Derbyshire.

This pot of money is part of othe authority's successful bid to the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) Growing and Developing the Visitor Economy Sector within Derbyshire.

Electrify the Midland Mainline

Electric trains are better for the climate and our health than diesel trains. The cleaner, greener, faster travel offered by electric trains should be accessible to people across the country, not just those in London and south east England. Following the recent decision of the Government to scrap plans for electrification of the UK railways, including the

Midland Mainline from London to Sheffield, there is a campaign to urge the Government to rethink.

On Saturday 9th September, air pollution, climate change and transport campaigners will take a big green plug on the train in a relay from London to Sheffield to show the government that we want them to plug in the Midland Mainline. Come and meet the green plug at Leicester (13:24), Derby (14.01), Chesterfield (15.27), or Sheffield (16.03).

Sign this petition by 10:10 and the Campaign for Better Transport to ask Secretary of State for Transport Chris Grayling to think again.
