Back by popular demand! The Community Climate Action Network is organising two Networking Events for climate change-focused community groups based in Nottingham, Derby, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. This is a chance for all the amazing people who are tackling the climate emergency in their communities to come together to share ideas, successes, learning and food.
It’s an exciting time – since our last Networking Events in March 2019, climate change has risen up the public agenda; our country, and many of our Local Authorities, have declared Climate Emergencies; and the work many of us have quietly been doing for years in our communities is getting more recognition. Come and celebrate what we’re all doing, share your frustrations at what’s not being done fast enough, and be inspired by others to keep going!
- ‘Bring and share’ lunch (we’ll provide the drinks)
- Hear about exciting projects from a number of groups in the area
- Share about your own group’s activities
- Carbon Literacy taster from Caroline Harmon of MEA
- The Nottingham event will be preceded by a Nottingham City Council consultation on their Carbon Neutral Action Plan for city residents.
Want to shout about your work? If your group is currently running a project and you would like to provide a 25 minute workshop/talk about the project please let us know by contacting Shital Visana. We can provide guidance on the best way to do this. This is your chance to inspire others with the great work you’re all doing!

Community Consultation on Nottingham’s Carbon Neutral Action Plan

Calling all Nottingham city residents! Nottingham City Council is asking for your views on becoming the UK’s first carbon neutral city and the actions proposed to get there.
Nottingham City Council has an ambitious target to see the city become Carbon Neutral by 2028. There have already been city wide reductions in CO2 emissions by above 41% since 2005, surpassing previous carbon reduction targets. However, the city still emitted 1.17 million tonnes of CO2 in 2017, enough to drive the average car 6 billion miles! The council is now asking residents for their views on becoming the UK’s first carbon neutral city and the actions and aims proposed to get there.
The draft Carbon Neutral Action Plan builds on the Nottingham 2028 Carbon Neutral Charter by setting out high-level objectives in order to achieve a resilient and sustainable carbon-neutral Nottingham by 2028.
This event is a chance to hear more about what’s already been done, find out more about the draft plan and tell the council more about how you think carbon netural can be achieved.

Grants of up to £5,000 are available to support environmental projects based within the UK. The organisation and/or project must have a website and or a presence on social media.
Fully Funded Stir to Action Places Available
Thu, 16 January 2020Stir to Action is working with the Friends Provident Foundation to offer 15 fully funded training places on Stir to Action's New Economy Programme, a year-long programme of 35 one-day workshops in Newcastle, Bradford, Plymouth, Bristol, and London.
Flight Free Campaign

Flight Free UK is asking people to pledge not to fly in the year of 2020, provided 100,000 others do the same. It’s a collective pledge, only activated once the target number of people is reached. It’s not just one person making a change and feeling that they have little impact, but a group effort which has a bigger impact and makes people feel they are part of a movement. The campaign originated in Sweden and contributed to a shift in public perception there: the word ‘flygskam’ (shame of flying) has entered the language, politicians and celebrities are openly saying they will fly less or not at all, flight bookings are down and rail bookings are up.
