East Midlands Leads on Anaerobic Digestion

A new renewable energy locator tool has revealed that the East Midlands produces more electricity from anaerobic digestion than anywhere else in England and Wales. We also make a relatively high percentage of our gas from renewable heat generation, have the fastest growing onshore wind capacity, and a higher than average number of solar PV installations. However, we’re still only 7^th out of the ten regions in a list of who is producing the most renewable energy.

Energy Advice Available at Derbyshire Money Week

Derbyshire residents can find out how to switch energy supplier and be more energy efficient as part of Derbyshire Money Week this February. Residents can find out how to make the most of their income, become a savvy saver and get help with financial worries during the event. Derbyshire County Council have teamed up with FAAD (Financial Action and Advice Derbyshire) to organise the week with support from a range of organisations including Citizens Advice, community banks, financial support and advice agencies and community and voluntary groups.

Derbyshire Money Week will run during half-term from Monday 13 to Saturday 18 February 2017 with events and a roadshow in every Derbyshire borough and district. Visitors will be invited to find out more about a variety of issues including dealing with debt, saving and alternatives to high-cost borrowing, benefits checks, cooking on a budget, energy switching, pensions advice, help with childcare, free school meals and how to avoid scams and loan sharks. The Fantastic Home energy efficiency exhibition will be at four of the shows giving advice about energy efficiency and switching.

All roadshows will run from approximately 10am to 3.30pm:

Nottinghamshire Awarded Almost £1m to Boost Green Transport Plans

Nottinghamshire County Council has been awarded £845,000 in government funding to deliver an ambitious plan helping more people to cycle, walk and use the bus to access work and training opportunities in Mansfield and Newark.

‘Get Moving Nottinghamshire’ has been awarded the money from the Department for Transport’s Access Fund. The bid was supported by a range of partner agencies including local colleges, employers, district councils and D2N2LEP.

The county council has also secured £150,000 from the Access Fund as part of a separate bid led by Nottingham City Council. This funding will be used to encourage Daybrook and West Bridgford residents to make journeys on foot, bicycle or bus when possible to help improve air quality in these areas which are close to the City.

The Government money for ‘Get Moving Nottinghamshire’ forms part of a wider £2.5m scheme which will see the introduction of 12.8km of new cycle routes in Newark and Mansfield, a range of public transport incentives, walking and cycle maps and travel information packs.

The planned package of measures in Newark and Mansfield aim to boost employment opportunities for employees, job seekers and school leavers where new housing development is planned and to help reduce journey times, tackle congestion and address local air quality issues.
