Plastic Free July | Plastic Free Festival 2021

This month is Plastic Free July, a global movement that helps millions of people be part of the solution to plastic pollution – so we can have cleaner streets, oceans, and beautiful communities.

You can find out more about how you can reduce plastic waste here.

Make your pledge to address single-use plastics, and get handy tips and tricks and inspiration from others also joining in:  https://bit.ly/3e8w0fx

Plastic Free Chesterfield would also love to hear your pledges! Post what you are working towards on their Facebook group

Community Lead of Plastic Free Chesterfield, Greg Hewitt, has a proposal to organise a Plastic Free Festival in Chesterfield in 2021 - a family-fun event with stalls selling plastic-free goods, workshops on how to reuse and upcycle, food, drink, and live performances.

Greg has put together a survey to find out whether you think this is a good idea:

Transition Buxton  'Hard to Recycle' recycling scheme

The Transition Buxton 'Hard to Recycle' recycling scheme is back! From Thursday 2nd July,  Sainsbury’s on the Market Place and Iceland at the bottom of Spring Gardens will host special collecting bins again near their exits. Each stack of bins has three sections clearly labelled. Please use the correct bin for your items.

They will be able to take:

  • Packets
  • Crisp Packets
  • Biscuits and snacks wrappers
  • Dental Products
  • Writing Instruments
  • Ella’s Kitchen Products
  • Confectionary Wrappers
  • Pringle tubes or similar, e.g Aldi (please place these in any bin)

If you have a big backlog batch that could overfill the collection bins, drop an email to plastic@transitionbuxton.co.uk to arrange a one off bulk drop off.

If you’d like to get involved with this or any of the other Transition Buxton initiatives, visit and get in touch via:

Free Trials of 50 New Electric Vans are available for Businesses in Nottingham

50 electric vans will be available for local Nottingham business to take on a try-before-you-buy arrangement until March 2022 - Electric Van Experience (EVE) project. After the initial loan period ends, the vehicles will be incorporated into the council’s own fleet.

This is after Nottingham City Council was successful in securing a £2.69m Government grant from the Highway England’s Air Quality Fund. This is another successful grant bid for Nottingham City Council, having already secured £50,000 Funding for ‘eCargo’ Bikes and £161m for a programme of transport improvements recently.

This initiative is part of Nottingham city’s commitment towards becoming carbon-neutral by 2028.
