On June 25th, the Climate Change Committee ('CCC'), the Government's own climate advisers, published their Progress Report to Parliament. This year’s report provides advice to the UK Government on securing a green and resilient recovery to COVID-19.
The Committee asks the government to redouble its efforts and expands on its May 2020 advice to the UK Prime Minister in which it set out the principles for building a resilient recovery.

On Wednesday (8th July), Rishi Sunak is set to announce a £3bn green investment package to cut carbon emissions. The plan aims to tackle UK’s poorly insulated homes, decarbonise public buildings, and create tens of thousands of new ‘green’ jobs.
This will include a £2bn Green Homes Grant scheme through which homeowners will be able to apply for vouchers of up to £5,000 for energy-saving home improvements. The government are commiting to pay at least two-thirds of the cost.
However, campaigners say Rishi Sunak’s plans does not go far enough when compared to Germany (£36bn) and France (£13.5bn).

Local News In Brief (July 2020):
On June 25th, XR Nottingham took to the streets to highlight the Climate Change Committee ('CCC') report and to deliver letters to local MPs asking them to speak out publicly on the governments inaction in taking any responsibility to address the climate crisis. You can view a vide of Nottingham Action here. Three Nottingham city MPs responded and you can read their statement via twitter.
They have lots of interesting workshops, talks and trainings listed on their website.
This Saturday 11th July, there is a ‘Rebel Picnic’ from 2-5pm at the Arboretum (near the bandstand). This is a chance to listen, ask questions and meet current Nottingham rebels. They are also planning a bike-friendly green-themed action for the 25th July.
