The Generation Sea: Plastic Protest | Plastic Free Chesterfield

This autumn Plastic Free Chesterfield is taking part in 'The Generation Sea: Plastic Protest' which involves six grassroots actions designed to challenge the manufacturers of single-use plastics, change public perception and demand stronger legislation from the government.

They aim to create a national wave of noise that cannot be ignored; calling on the government to raise the plastic agenda at the highest levels of power, grounding it in parliamentary conscious and demanding stronger legislation on reduction, production and systems.

UPDATE: Green Homes Grant

On our last community Zoom (Tuesday 18th August), we discussed the new Green Homes Grant scheme (GHG).

GHG is new government voucher scheme in England, worth about £2 billion, that will enable households to increase the energy efficiency of their homes.

Since then, government has released some more information about the scheme:

  • You will able to apply for the voucher from the end of September (no exact date announced).

  • You must redeem the voucher and ensure improvements are scheduled to be completed by 31 March 2021.

  • You can see items not covered by the voucher (towards the bottom of the page) here

  • You can now use the Government's eligibility checker tool on the Simple Energy Advice (SEA) website to find out what improvements can be made to your home and obtain quotes from certified tradespeople in your local area. You'll then need to submit these quotes as part of the application process for the vouchers themselves.

N.B:- The above tool should only be used to give an idea of what improvements you could be eligible for once the scheme opens. Don't agree to any work yet as it is not a guarantee you'll get funding through the scheme!

Please find below a PDF of the slides used during the Zoom (brief summary of GHG) and a summary of what was discussed.

After the Zoom, Chris Ring (Transition Belper)  kindly shared a copy of the letter he wrote to Kwasi Kwarteng, Minister for Business Energy and Clean Growth, urging publication of, and action on, the findings of the recent consultation on new building standards.
