Car - Free Streets Trialled Outside Nottingham City Schools

During the autumn term, roads outside eight schools in Nottingham City will be closed to traffic on a trial basis. This is part of a wider scheme to support social distancing and encourage people to walk or use a bike. Other measures include new ‘pop up’ cycle lanes, new cycle parking facilities, and street closures.

Councillor Adele Williams, Portfolio Holder for Transport at Nottingham City Council, said: "As many parents will know all too well, the roads outside schools can become very busy at school drop off and pick up times. This leads to congestion, idling vehicles, people parking on pavements, and it can be very difficult – and dangerous – for people walking and cycling to navigate."

The scheme is funded through a grant from the Government’s Emergency Active Travel Fund. If the trials are successful, the scheme could also be rolled out to other schools in the city.

Help Shape The Future Environment of the Derbyshire Dales

The Derbyshire Dales Climate Hub (DDCH) has designed a new survey to give people who live, work or study in Derbyshire Dales an opportunity to shape the future of the Derbyshire Dales.The DDCH is a newly formed environmental sub-group of the Derbyshire Climate Coalition.

The questionnaire aims to find out what changes local people would like to see, and also what they might care to do, to improve our local environment. How might we limit the damaging effects of climate change and help nature recover? The survey only takes 10 minutes.

The more responses they get, the better! So please ask your local friends and neighbours to complete it too. Children's views are also welcome. They have already invited MP Sarah Dines and the Town, Parish, District and County councillors to complete the survey.

Local Council Action Planning Days

Centre of Sustainable Energy (CSE) have designed a one day conference, which they will run with groups of local councils, to go into the details of climate action planning. The day will be delivered via the online events platform Hopin. This is suitable for parish councils and local authorities who have declared a Climate Emergency but are unsure of how to move forward.

The day will include:

  • Facilitated workshops on understanding local impacts, communicating with your residents, and building an action plan.
     
  • Online conference ‘Exhibition Hall’, with stalls from local advice providers, projects and schemes that can help you.
     
  • Networking opportunities, allowing with 1:1 informal meetings with other parish councillors and clerks from your area.

Workshops can be run for whole counties, district-wide or for individual councils. The online workshop is suitable for between 25-50 delegates.
