Eco-homes Workshop Notes
Fri, 11 December 2020Last month, Transition Chesterfield, Transition Wirksworth and Derbyshire Climate Coalition held a virtual workshop on Air-Source Heat Pumps. If you were unable to attend, notes and the recording of the workshop is available here.

The Big Tree Giveaway
Fri, 11 December 2020Nottingham City Council is giving away free trees for residents to plant at home. This is part of their manifesto pledge to plant 10,000 trees by the end of 2023 and the Woodland Trust’s Big Climate Fightback 2020. Trees will be available to collect from Woodthorpe Park Plant Shop from 11th January until 8th February 2021.
You can choose from the following types of trees:
- Silver Birch (Betula pendula),
- Rowan (Sorbus aucuparia)
- Hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna)
All trees are two years old, approximately 60-90cm (2-3 feet) tall, and will need to be planted by March.

Community Orchard Tree Planting Project in Belper

This planting project, supported by Belper Permaculture Network, aims to plant a network of trees in Belper that will provide food for all to share, reduce fossil fuel consumption, and save money.
If you have a publicly accessible area in your front garden/yard of your house or business, consider becoming a part of the Friendship Orchard. This will involve planting and looking after a fruit or nut tree this winter. When the trees fruit, the produce will be shared with the community.
Initial support and after care advice will be provided. The public will be able to find where the Friendship Orchard food is by searching on an online map or seeing a sign next to the trees.
Trees are £20. Hedgerow is £11 for the first metre and £5 for additional metres. Discounted prices subject to change.

Well done to Nottingham's Recycling Poster Competition Winners!
Fri, 11 December 2020Earlier this year Nottingham City Council’s Waste and Recycling Team challenged all the children in Nottingham to design a Recycling Poster that they could put up in their kitchen during lockdown to remind their families to recycle correctly!
The prize was a Wastebuster teddy bear which is made from plastic bottles! Councillor Sally Longford picked the 3 winners (Olivia, Ruby and Lucas) out of the many entries.
During lockdown it was important to remind residents how to recycle correctly, especially with the extra waste we all produced due to being at home more.
Nottingham City Council would like to thank all the children who took the time to enter their competition! You are all recycling superheroes!

Green Homes Grant Extension

The government has announced that the Green Homes Grant will be extended by one year. You now have until the end of March 2022 to apply for a voucher. This could be good news for people struggling to find local Trustmark installers to complete works within the original short timescales.
GHG is new government voucher scheme in England, worth about £2 billion, to help households install energy efficiency measures. Vouchers up to £5,000 will be available to households provided they make a minimum contribution of 33% of the cost of upgrades. Low income households will be able to apply for vouchers of up to £10,000 with no household contribution required. Funding (£500 million of the £2 billion) will also be available to Local Authorities in England to support the upgrade of homes for low income households in their areas.
