The Sustainable Winster group works to promote energy conservation, renewable energy, and recycling in Winster Parish. They have, amongst other things, held an energy awareness day, supported the local school in its bid to become an ‘eco-school’, conducted a local energy survey and set up a library of energy saving light bulbs. Plans for the coming months include a workshop on warm homes, improving their website and lobbying the council for the green waste collection service to be extend to the whole of Winster.
· To promote energy conservation and recycling within the Winster Parish.
· To persuade District and County Councils to lead by example through the adoption of innovative projects targeted at; energy reduction, use of renewable energy sources, recycling and energy generation from waste.
Projects So far:
· With support from The National Park provided recommendations to village shop committee on energy saving
· Conducted an energy survey in association with the Energy Savings Trust – 30% response
· Providing free loan energy consumption meters
· Providing a light bulb library
· Free to a Good Home – residents recycle unwanted equipment etc.
· Supporting school to get EcoSchool status
· Arrange recycling of plastic film
· Article in the village magazine with energy-saving comments that were made at the Climate Change Awareness Day by residents.
· Influenced choice of new Christmas Tree lights for the village tree
