The aims of Sustainable Youlgrave:

 
We are seeking to make our community more self-sufficient and resourceful, reducing its carbon footprint and encouraging a responsible and forward-thinking lifestyle, while balancing the needs of a rural farming community with the demands of a popular National Park.
 
Past campaigns/activities/work:
 
·        Public workshops looking at home composting and domestic solar energy
·        £45K feasibility study into local anaerobic digestion possibilities
·        Range of community activities, including village market, long life bags and bee group
·        Two community-wide surveys to gauge household behaviour and attitudes towards climate change
 
 Forthcoming activities/work/campaigns:
 
·        Public building energy survey to help local institutions reduce their carbon footprint
·        Establishment of local community orchard and information hub
·        Further collaboration with University of Sheffield on local projects, such as battery recycling and wood-fuelled CHP district heating scheme
·        Establishing a local anaerobic digestion facility
